GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONGKONG, 15th. August, 1912.

sir.

40% 10

With reference to paragraph 11 (a) of my Des-

-patch No. 330 of 7th. October, 1910, I have the honour to inform

you that when the plans for the New agistracy were prepared it

was not found possible to include quarters for the First Clerk,

Magistracy, a post which carries with it the grant of free quarters,

2.

The Magistracy Clerk is at all hours of the day

and night subject to be called upon to carry out some duty in

connection with his office, and it is essential that he should live

within easy reach of the Police Station, and I therefore consider

it advisable that the officer holding this post shall be granted a

house allowance, in lieu of quarters, of 90 per mensem subject to

the condition that his house shall be within five minutes walk from

the Central Police Station.

3.

I shall be glad to be informed by telegram

whether tuis Lee us with your approval.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

MA

Governor,&c..

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
